Lake City Middle School Bulletin for Friday, December 20, 2013 ...

 

The Missaukee County Road Commission requests your cooperation through the winter months while snowplowing is taking place. Please be aware of the fact that the plows are on the roads many mornings at the same times as the busses. Make sure that you wait a safe distance from the plowed portion of the roadway until the bus actually arrives at the stop.

 

Yearbook order forms are available in the Library and the Office. The cost again this year is $15.

 

Holiday break begins at the end of the day this Friday after school. Students will report back to class on Monday, January 6.

 

Youth boys basketball Saturday Skills Camp for boys in grades 3 through 6 will be held on Saturdays, beginning January 11 through March 1. Cost is $25 per person or $45 per family and includes a t-shirt. The 5th and 6th grade boys will participate from 8 to 9:15 am and 3rd and 4th grade boys will participate 9:30 to 10:45 am. Complete the registration form and return with payment to the office. Forms must be returned by Friday, January 10.

 

Mrs. Chadwick would like to remind all students: at the end of the day, students are only permitted to exit through the doors to the outside lab; you are not allowed to exit through any other door. Also, students using the outside lab during home room will be dismissed as a group at the end of homeroom.

 

American Red Cross babysitter's Training Babysitter's Training from the American Red Cross was developed with input from youth just like you. The course is fun and fast-paced with hands-on activities, exciting video, role-plays and lively discussions developed for youth 11 to 15 years old. Classes will be offered January 25, February 22, March 29 and April 26. The classes will be offered at Trinity Health, McAuley Center, Dublin Room, 400 Hobart Street, Cadillac. There is a fee. WINTER WEIGHT ROOM will be open Monday/Wednesday/Thursday from 3:30-4:45 pm beginning Monday, January 6. The weight room is open to grade 8-12

 

Ladies and Gentlemen, have you noticed that some of your teachers are dressed a little more oddly today? Your teachers are participating in an “Ugly Sweater Contest” and they are asking you to judge which teacher is wearing the ugliest sweater. Ballots will be available during your lunches. Please take a moment to vote for the teacher wearing the most hideous sweater. Thank-you!

The last Middle School boys basketball game was held last night. Both the 7th and the 8th grade Middle School boys Basketball teams finished their seasons last night with wins over Evart. The 7th grade team won a well-coached game with a score of 48-26. They finished the game with a 11-1 record. The 8th grade finished off the night with a 40-37 win. They completed the season with an 8-4 record. Both teams should be proud of how they played all season. The season-end party will be held tonight right after school until 4 pm.

The boys Middle school basketball teams split last night against McBain. The 7th graders took their first loss of season with a final score of 30-38. The 8th grade followed it up with their best game of the year. They won the game with a score of 52-34.

Reminder – Tuesday’s end of year party will be after school in the gym till 4:00. Please bring $2.00 NOT $3.00. Oh Yeah – Pizza . . . Yum Yum!

The 7th grade squeaked out a victory winning 20-19. Both teams played hard last night with the 7th grade pulling out a 39-18 win. They played competitive and hard throughout the whole game. The 8th grade played a great first half, but wasn’t able to hold on to the lead as they fell short 47-19. Also, 7th grade practice tonight will be cancelled.

 

The Missaukee County Sheriff's Office is conducting snowmobile training class tomorrow. There is still space available.  To register call 839-4338 extension 1.

It is time again to begin collecting food items for our Project Christmas Food Drive. We will be collecting through Friday, December 13. The homeroom with the most items donated will be rewarded with an ice cream sundae party!

 

Middle School boys basketball games are scheduled for this Thursday, December 5 at home against Beal City (game time is 5 pm); Monday, December 9 at Pine River (game time is 6 pm, bus time is 4:45 pm); Thursday, December 12 at McBain (game time is 6 pm, bus time is 5:15 pm); and Monday, December 16 at home against Evart (game time is 5 pm). Come out and support the boys basketball teams. The season-end party will be held on Tuesday, December 17th right after school until 4 pm.

 

Holiday break begins on Friday, December 20 after school. Students will report to class on Monday, January 6.

 

Our next dance is scheduled for Friday, December 13. The dance will start right after school and run until 5 pm. Pizza and pop will be sold. School rules apply. Students should be picked up at 5 pm

 

Camp Rotary Parent Meeting will be held on Monday, December 9, beginning at 7 pm in the middle school band room. 6th grade parents are encouraged to attend.

 

Annual hobby day will be held on Friday, December 20. Hobby day will begin at 12:30 pm

 

Middle School girls basketball will start after we return from holiday break. Girls that are interested in playing basketball may sign up in the office. You must have a physical card on file in order to participate.

 

Middle School Band Concert will be held on Tuesday, December 10, beginning at 7 pm in the middle school gym.

Both boys basketball teams played well and won their games last night over NMC. The 7th graders started off with a 39-10 victory and the 8th graders capped it off with a 44-36 win. Both Middle school boys basketball teams earned their Pizza buffet by winning both games last night. The 7th grade team won the first game 46-25. 11 of their players scored in the game. The 8th grade followed up with a 55-17 victory. 11 players on their team also scored. Again, a great team effort.

The Boy Scouts will host their 4th annual Haunted House on October 25 and 26 from 6-9 p.m. The haunted house is located at the Conservation Gun Club on M-66. Cost is $3 for adults, $4 for kids, and $10 for family.

 

Miller's Haunted Mansion will open on October 24 from 8-10 p.m. Location and additional dates and times are provided on the flyer posted on the announcement board by the office. The cost is $5 per person or $20 per family. A percentage of the proceeds will benefit the 6th grade Camp Rotary program.

 

Mobile Dentist will be here on October 24 and 25. There is still time to turn in your registration form which is available in the office.

 

Dance! Dance! Dance! The first dance will be Friday after school from 3:05 until 5:00. The cost is $2. Pizza and pop will be sold too. Former Lake City grad Jason Smith will dj again this year. Please have your ride here at 5:00 to pick you up. School rules apply at the dance.

 

Snowmobile Safety Class! The Cadillac Winter Warriors Snowmobile Club is sponsoring a FREE snowmobile safety class on Saturday, November 2. It will be held at the Tustin Elementary School. Students must be 12 years old by January 2014 to participate. Proof of age is required at registration. To register, call 231-768-4069 or 231-735-4027 to reserve your spot. You may need to leave a message.

 

7th and 8th grade boys' basketball! Thursday and Friday, October 24 and 25, boys’ basketball tryouts will be held at the high school gym. 8th grade will practice from 4:35 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. 7th grade will practice from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Middle School students are NOT permitted to be at the high school until 4:30. Report directly to the gym.

 

The Missaukee County Road Commission requests your cooperation through the winter months while snowplowing is taking place. We ask that you be aware of the fact that the plows are on the roads many mornings at the same times that the busses are picking up students. We urge you to make sure that your children wait a safe distance from the plowed portion of the roadway until the bus actually arrives at their stop. It is important that we work together to make certain of their safety.

 

The 7th and 8th grade volleyball teams took on the comets from NMC last night in volleyball action. The 7th grade came out strong playing well as a team and won all three games. The 8th grade fought hard but came up short in the of the night 19-25, 18-25 and 12-25. They played very well as team and have made great improvements throughout the season. Catch them next game Thursday the 24th in their last home game of the season as they taken on the Aggies of Beal City.

VOLLEYBALL NEWS! Our volleyball teams travel to Evart tonight. Game time is 6 pm - bus leaves at 4:45 pm

 

FOOTBALL NEWS! Our Trojans Football Team beat the Marion Eagles 30 - 0. It was a great team effort. The boys where strong on both side of the ball, only punting once while holding Marion out of the end zone. The special teams units keep the team in good field position throughout the game. The team travels to Pine River next Wednesday to wrap up the 2013 season.

Volleyball news! The 7th and 8th grade volleyball teams traveled to McBain last night and came home with a pair of wins. The 7th grade team beat McBain in all four matches last night. The 8th grade team played their best game yet last night as they beat the Ramblers in three out of four games with scores of 25-20, 25-17, 18-25 and 25-21. They worked hard, played great as a team and are showing great improvement. Their next game is home Monday the 14th against the Rangers of Manton at 5 PM.
